It is important to understand that people who are 17 and older are treated as adults under Queensland’s criminal law. The Queensland Parliament has passed legislation changing this to 18, but that legislation has not yet commenced. It is likely to commence in late 2017.
Some behaviour that you might think is okay can actually be against the law, especially when you are in a public place. Below is a list of some common offences that could get you in trouble. Fines for offences are calculated using a formula where 1 penalty unit equals $121.90 (as of 1 July 2016).
Remember, having a criminal history can affect your future employment and travel opportunities.
